Due to the influence of the western winds and a low-pressure system formed over the Arabian Sea, most parts of the country are observing cloudy conditions.
According to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM), the hilly and Terai regions are experiencing light to moderate rainfall, while light to moderate snowfall is taking place in the mountainous areas. While moderate to heavy snowfall is occurring in the Himalayan regions around Manang and Mustang of Gandaki Province.
Weather forecast for three days
DHM has issued a weather warning, forecasting rain and snowfall in various parts of the country over the next two days.
According to the latest advisory, light to moderate rainfall and snowfall are likely in some areas of Gandaki, Lumbini, and Karnali Provinces, as well as in the hilly and mountainous regions of other provinces until Wednesday morning. One or two locations in the high hilly and mountainous areas of Bagmati, Gandaki, and Karnali Provinces may experience heavy snowfall or rainfall.
On Thursday (30 October), moderate rainfall is expected in many areas of Koshi, Madhesh, and Bagmati Provinces, and in some parts of Gandaki Province. Similarly, moderate snowfall may occur in the high hilly and mountainous regions of Koshi and Bagmati Provinces, and at a few locations in Gandaki Province.

The department has also warned of the possibility of heavy rainfall at one or two places in Madhesh and Bagmati Provinces, which could disrupt daily life, mountaineering, agriculture, and tourism activities.
DHM has urged the public to remain alert and take necessary precautions, and advised all concerned agencies and individuals to stay updated with the latest weather bulletins.
India issues alerts for extremely heavy rainfall as cyclone ‘Montha’ intensifies
Meanwhile in India, a cyclone storm namely “Montha” over westcentral Bay of Bengal has moved north-northwestwards with a speed of 15 kmph during the past 6 hours, intensified into a severe cyclonic storm. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has already issued a red alert, warning about the severe storm and extremely heavy rainfall over Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema, Telangana and south Chhattisgarh on 28th and Odisha on 28 and 29 October, 2025.
According to IMD, the severe cyclonic storm Montha over west central Bay of Bengal is likely to cross Andhra Pradesh coast between Machilipatnam and Kalingapatnam around Kakinada during evening/night of today, the 28th October with a maximum sustained wind speed of 90-100 kmph gusting to 110 kmph.”
Meanwhile, Chennai and surrounding districts started experiencing widespread, intense rainfall since Monday night as Montha moved closer to the coast.
As the country’s eastern coast prepares for Cyclone Montha to make landfall later on Tuesday, Indian authorities have closed schools and evacuated tens of thousands of residents from low-lying coastal areas. Evacuation efforts are underway in Andhra Pradesh’s Kakinada district, with nearly 50,000 residents relocated to relief camps, according to a government report.
Meteorologists in Nepal have indicated that the effects of the cyclonic storm ‘Montha’ formed in the Bay of Bengal will travel to Nepal in a few days. Reportedly, the DHM is monitoring the situation and is expected to issue an update soon.
