Voter registration surpasses half a million

New voter enrolment crosses half a million as deadlines near, with in-person biometric and national identity registrations surging ahead of the 2026 federal elections.

As of November 16, a total of 527,637 new voters have registered across the country for the upcoming House of Representatives (HoR) elections scheduled for March 5, 2026.

According to data shared by Prime Minister Sushila Karki on her social media accounts, 302,062 individuals have enrolled in person using biometric verification, while 225,575 have registered through their national identity numbers.

The deadline for voter registration is Friday, November 21. Eligible citizens can apply for enrolment by logging on to the Election Commission’s voter pre-registration portal.

Meanwhile, political parties seeking to contest the HoR and National Assembly (NA) elections can begin registering from November 17. The deadline for party registration is November 26 for the HoR and November 23 for the NA.

The National Assembly elections are scheduled for January 25, 2026, to fill one-third of the total 59 seats that will fall vacant on March 4.
