Two assistant professors at Tribhuvan University — Dr. Subhangi Subedi and Dr. Supriya Sharma — have been awarded the Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD) Fellowship Award 2022.
The two scientists will receive up to $50,000 to lead their individual research projects, establish research groups to maintain an international standard of research, and attract scholars from all over the world to collaborate.
Dr. Subedi's project is on ‘Carbon quantum dot as a next-generation smart fluorescent probe to scrutinize and control environmental threats.’
Dr. Sharma's project is about ‘Combating against antibiotic resistance: Using nanoparticles combined with antibiotics against WHO recognized antibiotic resistant priority pathogens from pigeon droppings of selected temples of Kathmandu.’
Both scholars currently serve as assistant professors at Tribhuvan University — Dr. Subedi at the Tri-Chandra Campus and Dr. Sharma at the Central Department of Microbiology.
Earlier, Dr. Babita Paudel had secured ‘Humboldt Alumni Award 2022’ under excellent networking initiatives.
Dr. Paudel is a founder/researcher at the Center for Natural and Applied Sciences (CENAS).
CENAS, a non-profit research firm founded by Dr. Paudel, conducts research on multidisciplinary fields in Natural and Applied Sciences such as plant and animal science, natural product chemistry, microbiology, biotechnology, food and nutrition, biochemistry, and environmental science.
Dr. Paudel will use the award amounting to 30,000 Euros in promoting networking and capacity building of women researchers in the STEM field and preparing a database of Nepal’s women researchers.
