The era of global boiling has arrived

By Dibyak Kapali |

“The era of global warming has ended and the era of global boiling has arrived”, said the UN Secretary-General António Guterres after scientists concluded that July was on course to be the hottest month ever recorded in human history.

According to Copernicus, an Earth observation program run by the European Union, the world’s average temperature increased to 17.08°C on July 6, which broke the previous record of 16.8°C in August 2016.

The pollution that traps sunlight and creates a greenhouse effect on Earth has caused the global average temperature to steadily climb, exacerbating weather extremes such as heatwaves, cold waves, heavy precipitation, and drought, among others.

“For scientists, it is unequivocal. Humans are to blame. All this is entirely consistent with predictions and repeated warnings. The only surprise is the speed of the change. Climate change is here, it is terrifying, and it is just the beginning.”

Authorities should act quickly, Guterres stressed.

“The air is unbreathable, the heat is unbearable, and the level of fossil fuel profits and climate inaction is unacceptable. Leaders must lead. No more hesitancy, no more excuses, no more waiting for others to move first. There is simply no more time for that.”
