Election Commission announces election schedule for House of Representatives

The Election Commission has released its schedule for the House of Representatives election to be held on 5 March, 2026 (Falgun 21). According to the commission, all election preparation processes will be conducted within the scheduled timeframe.

• Any groups intending to contest the lower house election as a political party must register their party at the Election Commission by 16 November. This gives new parties six weeks from now to register.
   
• Registration for election will take place from 17 to 26 November (Mangsir 1 to 10).
   
• Election Offices will be set up starting 16 January 2026 (Magh 2) for the First-Past-the-Post (FPTP) system. For the Proportional Representation (PR) system, Election Offices will be set up on 1 December 2025 (Mangsir 15).
   
• Closed lists for PR system will have to be submitted between 2 and 3 January 2 (Poush 18–19).
   
• Election campaigning will run from 15 February to March 2, 2026 (Falgun 3 to 18).
   
• Campaign silence period: 2 March 2026 (Falgun 18).
   
• Voting Day: Polling will take place from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Vote counting will begin after ballot boxes are collected.

A major concern with the announcement is that the government hasn't taken political parties into confidence yet.
